noi. Magazin

Noi. Magazin is an online platform created in collaboration with Swiss Post as part of a student project at Hochschule Luzern (HSLU). The project was designed to engage and inform young people about political participation in Switzerland. The goal was to address the issue of low voter turnout among young adults and make political engagement more accessible, relevant, and engaging. Through the magazine, we aimed to bridge the gap between young people and politics, making political content digestible, interesting, and actionable.

The Problem

Young people often feel disconnected from politics, believing that their vote doesn't matter or that political processes are too complex. How might we design an online platform that makes political participation more approachable, relevant, and engaging for this demographic? How can we create an experience that motivates young adults to participate in the democratic process?

Research & Insights

User Interviews & Personas
We conducted several user interviews with young adults to understand their feelings towards political engagement. This research led to the creation of three primary personas:

  1.  A person who finds politics complex and prefers fast, digital solutions.

  2. Someone who is overwhelmed by politics and often relies on family members to make decisions, living a privileged life.

  3. A user who is not heavily invested in politics but would like simple ways to engage and feel that their voice matters.

Through these personas, we identified key barriers to engagement: the complexity of political processes, a lack of relevance, and feelings of powerlessness.

User Journey & Pain Points
The user journey revealed that many young adults are overwhelmed by the political landscape and do not feel motivated to participate. Key pain points included:

  • Complexity: Politics is seen as complicated and time-consuming.

  • Irrelevance: Young voters don’t see how political issues impact their daily lives.

  • Lack of engagement: Political content often fails to capture the attention of younger audiences.

Solution Approach

Our solution was an online magazine that made political content approachable, relevant, and entertaining. We aimed to create an experience that spoke to the interests and lifestyles of young adults while also providing the necessary information to encourage informed voting.

Key Features

  • Engaging Content: A mix of serious political topics presented with humor, infographics, and simplified explanations.

  • Interactive Elements: Polls, quizzes, and interactive features to engage users and make them feel that their participation matters.

  • Cross-Platform Integration: Integration with social media channels like Instagram to drive traffic and engagement.

Design & Development

Wireframes & Prototyping
Initial wireframes focused on simplifying the user experience. We created a clean, easy-to-navigate interface with a focus on engaging visuals and interactive content.

Content Development
Content was tailored to address the specific needs and concerns of young adults:

  • Social Media Integration: Memes, short videos, and interactive Instagram polls helped keep users engaged and encouraged sharing.

  • Simplified Political Information: Complex topics were broken down into bite-sized pieces, often using humor and visuals to make them more digestible.

Prototype & User Testing

The prototype was created using Figma, where interactive features like quizzes, polls, and video content were tested. User testing showed that young adults appreciated the humor and accessibility of the content but wanted further improvements in search functionality and user interaction.

Key feedback

  • Users enjoyed the interactive chat stories and the digital comic contests but suggested increasing the content's seriousness to establish trust.

  • Search functionality was identified as an area for improvement, as users needed an easier way to find specific topics.

Conclusion

The Noi. Magazin project is an attempt to make politics more engaging and accessible to young voters. By blending humor, interactivity, and simplified political content, we created a platform that resonates with young adults and encourages them to participate in democratic processes. The project allowed me to refine my skills in UX design, content strategy, and prototyping, while focusing on user-centered solutions to address real-world issues like political disengagement.
